Now for the micro scale brilliance I had yesterday:

Its only got 7 parts, 9 if you count the water.
Its probably the smallest build-able Golden Gate Bridge out there.
And as I’m busy making all the keychains and jewelry I couldn’t just stop there. So I made these

Naturally they will be available on my Folded Fancy Etsy shop and I will also have them on sale at Bricks by the Bay.

I’ve been hesitant to get the new Star Wars mini models with the planets and then I see something like this that changes my mind.

Its always fun to see Karf Oohlu’s creations and this is no exception.
This is why I love micro scale. Sure anyone with enough bricks can build a house like James May or a giant ball like Mythbusters. But to get such elegance from a handful of bricks is so much better!
This one of his, although nothing to do with micro scale also caught my eye

I just had my own bit of micro scale brilliance today, but you’ll have to wait for the next post as its pretty late, I haven’t taken a picture of it yet, and I’ve been working hard all day on products for Bricks by the Bay and BrickWorld Indy.
No I won’t be going to BrickWorld Indy, its the week before Bricks by the Bay and two conventions a week apart is too much for me. But what I will be doing is having a friend of mine sell my products for me. So if you happen to be going to that show, I’ll have my keychains, jewelry, etc. on sale there. At least that’s the plan.
That’s why I’ve been lax on the posting front lately. Getting ready for one show is hard work, but two at the same time, well that’s just about killing me. Okay, maybe that’s a little harsh, but I have been getting very little sleep and making tons of stuff — I’m already in the hundreds of items so far!
But as always I’ve also got lots of new items that I’ll be showing for the first time. I’ll be posting them soon here so you can see them. They are pretty darn cute, if I do say so myself.
Yes Bricks by the Bay is the main thing on my mind right now. But with it just a few weeks away I still have so much to do!

There is just under a month away until Bricks by the Bay comes once again to Santa Clara, California. There are only ten more full attendee spots left open until we reach the 400 attendee limit. For those that miss out on being a full attendee, they can still come to the Public Day on Sunday, March 18th from 10 am -4 pm. If you are on the fence about getting an attendee badge, I have to say — What are you waiting for?!
I have to admit, the reason I chose this particular picture was because it features my 5 foot long Golden Gate Bridge that I brought last year. And no, I won’t be bringing again this year. Unlike some who bring the same models year after year, I have a one year rule for models. I display them for a year, take them to some of the LEGO Cons I attend, and then I “retire” them. But don’t worry, the Golden Gate bridge won’t be broken up, at least not more than the designed sections that it comes apart into.
I will however be bringing my Remembering 9/11 mosaic

I am also the Art coordinator, so I’ll be creating the trophies this year. And no, I won’t be nominating myself.
For those of you in the Mid-West who can’t make it to Bricks by the Bay, there is BrickWorld Indy in Indianapolis, Indiana
the week before on March 10th and 11th at the Indiana Convention Center.
And of course, because Bricks by the Bay is less than a month away, I am furiously working at getting all my product ready to sell! Which is naturally taking a lot of my time up from writing this blog.
I keep trying to go back to daily, but as I get busier it seems to get harder to keep this up. But never fear, even if I don’t write it every day, I have no plans on stopping. I love writing this blog!
So for those of you who are coming, I look forward to seeing you! And for those that can’t make it, I will do my best to cover the convention and all the LEGO-y goodness.

In an almost unprecedented product development and turnaround the LEGO Minecraft model is now available for preorder on the LEGO Minecraft Facebook page for $35 USD.
I have it on good authority that the two iconic characters Steve and the Creeper have printed on faces, which just might be a first — side printed LEGO plates for Steve’s face.
As I don’t know anything at all about Minecraft, other than what it looks like, I’m not exactly excited for these sets. To me I’d call it a 1×1 tile parts pack for the greens, brown and tan.
But with the price point, its not exactly a deal. The 480 parts average out to $0.14 $0.07 a piece with only the decorated elements unique to the set (I did my math wrong sorry). I guess for Minecraft fans, which there are obviously more than 10,000 that wanted it turned into a set through Cuusso, this is exciting news. For me however, not so much.

I meant to post this earlier, but on the eve of Valentine’s Day this is a perfect time for it to be shared.
We’ve seen LEGO roses before, heck, I’ve even built some but Barbara Werth’s rose is the first time I’ve seen minifig capes as petals.
It took me a moment to figure out how the center was made. See if you can figure it out.

I also really like the Toy Story Army Men bases as the leaves. That part isn’t used nearly enough, at least in my opinion.
Barbara certainly has a fun building style and its always great to find a fellow brick chick

M16 Variants & M110
By popular demand, here’s a CAD Rendering of the four guns being released on February 10, 2012.
Each has a $1 MSRP
I’m not too much into guns but I do try to support BrickArms. How else will our little minifigs protect themselves against the monsters, zombies and aliens that seem to inhabit their plastic world from time to time?

I really like this shot of them hot off the press.

They of course are all available now at BrickArms.com

Last month I had an interesting request. I was asked if I could make a check mark in a box.

She wanted it as a birthday present for her boyfriend. This is his company’s logo.
I started out with the logo image and brickpaper. She wanted the box to be six inches square, so that determined the size of the whole model.

The challenge was to make the 2D image 3D. So I made the check coming out of the box.

There is a little bit of “cheating” involved — i.e. parts are glued on and not attached in any way — but as the whole model was a glued sculpture it didn’t really matter. And as I stopped being a “purist” when it comes to LEGO building years ago, I don’t really care if it doesn’t all completely attach.
But, if the check had been in a more standard color than medium blue, it would have been possible to do the model with no gluing.
