Vitruvian Minifig

by

You might know that Kevin Hinkle, the North American Community Coordinator for LEGO, is an AFOL at heart. What you might not know is that he is also a talented artist

Vitruvian Minifig

Kevin’s Vitruvian Minifig pays tribute to Leonardo da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man but it reminds me more of one of my most favorite decorated LEGO tiles from 2001–

I hope Kevin shares more of his artistic abilities with us. :)

Does he normally sign his work backwards? :) I hate to be pedantic but the raised arms don’t meet the circle. Perhaps the new man bat arms (sans wings) and a little artistic license could have been employed. But what am I saying, this is better than I could ever attempt to do!

Mariann, what set (or sets) included the piece you show below the illustration? Also, is the illustration shown reversed, or does he sign his name backward? Thanks!

I don’t know if Kevin normally signs his name backwards or not, I just pulled this directly off Kevin’s Flickr stream so you’d have to ask him.

As for the decorated tile. It came in two sets and an accessory pack for the Life on Mars series

I have a feeling that Kevin signing his name backwards is also a tribute to daVinci, as he often wrote backwards, especially in his personal journals.

  4. Kevin Hinkle Says:

I do not normally sign backwards. It was an homage to Leonardo Da Vinci and this piece of artwork. You’ll have to look it up to figure out why. ;) Thanks for the post Mariann!

I saw last year the work of Matthew Ulstad (and had the opportunity to buy one of the prints) http://cargocollective.com/ulstad/-The-State-of-Denmark although Kevin’s work looks quite similar to the angles of Da Vinci’s I was pleased to see how Matthew captured the Lego figurine in his prints…
