First LEGO Battles Trailer

May 22, 2009

Want to get a first look at LEGO Battles? Well, here you go:

The trailer looks pretty cool, but we’ll have to wait and see about the gameplay. It looks very different to the other LEGO games, something that may or may not be good depending on your opinion. :P

My first Eurobricks Review: 5969 Squidman Escape

May 19, 2009

Space Set

I’ve never done a set review on Eurobricks before, mainly because someone else got to the set before I did. :D I recently found several of the Space Police III sets at Toys ‘R’ Us (along with the new Agents, Town, and Power Miners) and decided to get the Squidman Escape. When I checked Eurobricks I noticed that no one had reviewed it yet, so I decided to give it a go.

As soon as I saw the head, I thought that it would look better like this:
Good Squid 2

It’s not a bad set, but not that great either. Mainly I got it for the Squidman, you can read the full review here. ;)

5970 Freeze Ray Frenzy

May 17, 2009

Eurobricks own Oky Wan Kenobi has reviewed one of the newest Space Police III sets.

Set: 5970
Theme: Space Police (III)
Year: 2009
Pieces: 80
Minifigs: 2
Price: USD 9.99 (10.99 @ TRU)

Apparently the box also advertises a new video game.

It says “out now on Nintendo DS.” I haven’t heard about this one, unless its LEGO Battles from TT Games. But I’ll keep the look out for news. :)

Although I like the look of the Minifigs, I’m not too crazy of the over all design of the ships. Plus, I don’t get the whole stop sign and traffic light thing. You would think that they’d look a little different in the future. :P You can read his full review here.

I was really excited to hear that Space Police was finally returning and all of aliens look pretty cool. I’ll just have to hold out my overall judgment till I see the entire line.

Infinity Plaza

May 16, 2009

Tim Inman created this round LEGO building! At first glance I wondered how he’d solved the problem of the roof, but after I saw this shot I knew (at least I think I know ;) )

Here’s a Model Building Tip for you, if you haven’t figured it out from the photos, with a lot of 2×2 bricks and some slight bending, you can make a curved LEGO wall. Its not a cheat, and no bricks were “harmed,” that’s just what happens. That’s a lot of medium and trans blue 2×2’s but the end result is stunning! Now my only question is do the people who work there get dizzy? :P

Oh yeah, Christmas is going to be good!

May 15, 2009

I’ve been hearing rumors of this set since the start of the year. Okay, so this isn’t the greatest image, it’s still in the “Preliminary” phase. Just looking at all the wonderful piratey goodness makes me all excited! Last year’s Castle edition was my most favorite of the Advent Calendar sets since they first appeared in 1998 (at least I think that’s the first year). I was totally bummed when I heard that they wouldn’t be available in America. Then, like some Christmas miracle, they magically were. Maybe it had something to do with all of us here in the States wishing and hoping that there just might be a chance. ;)

This one is getting me equally excited! Just the fact that the Mermaid is one of the figures makes me want to get a couple of this set. Okay, so I did break down and buy two of the Mermaids on Bricklink and I bought two of the Harry Potter Rescue from the Merpeople sets when they were out. Can you guess that I really like mermaids? :D

But where was I? Oh yes, the Pirate Advent Calendar. I really can’t find anything wrong with what basically comes down to a nicely priced parts and Minifig pack. The only thing I’m hoping is that LEGO will make it internationally available, or that a shipment will “accidentally” find its way to the States.

Oh, and here’s a preliminary picture of the Town Advent Calendar too:

Billy McGill, Come on down!

May 15, 2009

I’m not a big fan of the show (sorry all you Price is Right fans out there) but this is a pretty cool MOC by Billy McGill aka Mt. Dew Monkey on Flickr. I can just hear the trumpeting music in the background and the loud beeping noise as the wheel spins around. The numbers are Photoshopped in, which would be my only complaint, but overall its well done. Hopefully she rolls the dollar. :D

Drawbridge Defense

May 13, 2009

Set #: 7079
Theme: Castle
Year Released: 2009
Piece Count: 335
Minifigs: 7
List Price: $39.99 USD

For those of you who really wanted a Jester minifig but couldn’t order the Castle Advent Calendar last Christmas, you’re in luck! He appears, along with a newly designed queen and knight, in the Drawbridge Defense.

mania3 does it again, showing us all the ins and outs of this set. The drawbridge itself isn’t all that exciting, looking very similar to past versions.

In my opinion, the figures are the highlight of this set. The only drawback to me is the price. At $40, and with an uninteresting drawbridge, this is one that I’d put on my “maybe” list. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love castle. It was one of the very first themes that I really got into. But as I grow older, and after having collected a rather large assortment of Castle sets over the years, I find that I only need so much of the newer sets. However, for younger enthusiasts this would be a great addition to their collections. :)

If you are interested in reading mania3’s full review you can find it here.

From the first moment I saw this set, I fell in love with it! LEGO just seems to be getting better and better. The Taj Mahal, the Medieval Market Village, and now this! It looks like LEGO is finally listening to all of us adult LEGO fans and giving us what we want. Okay, so the set is expensive, but at that piece count I can’t really fault that either. It simply is a stunning set with so many oodles of goodness I can’t seem to get over it.

With the Medieval Market Village I was amazed at all the detailed parts and the special pieces that they provided (including the much coveted Turkey). The Grand Carousel far surpasses even the Village (which I love, by the way ;) ) with all the special elements included — tan beards, jester hats, sound and animation.

I am very, very excited about this set, except for the dent its going to make in my wallet. :D

Traveling to Texas

April 23, 2009

"I hate to meet the animal that left this!"

I haven’t had much of a chance to post lately, in fact, I haven’t had internet much in the last few days. I’ve been on the road. I’m driving from California to Houston, Texas with my dad. Its just a short trip, but even a short trip takes over a week to complete when you’re driving over 3000 miles round trip.

A couple of days ago, we stopped in Gila Bend, Arizona. We ate at “The World Famous Cactus Burger” place (strange how so many of these road side places are “world famous” but no one’s ever heard of them ;) ). The cactus burger was pretty good, but the souvenirs they sold were much more entertaining. I took lots of pictures, which at a later date I will post on Flickr.

I’ll try and keep up with posting as much as I can, but with limited access, my posting may be spotty.

Sweating Bricks

April 18, 2009

“Okay people, kick those legs higher!”

Shannon Young, best known for his micro City of Shannonia, made this fun set of scenes last year. I love all the different minifig heads he used to show just the right expressions. Punching bags, free weights and treadmills are are done in perfect proportions.

You can check the rest of the images here.
