Micro Modular Haunted House

September 28, 2012

Jens Ohrndorf has created this awesome micro version of the new Monster Fighters Haunted House set.

It is packed full of techniques, especially for its size. It would have been nice to see it in sand green, but in a mix of dark grey and dark bley (new dark grey) its more like what I would picture a haunted house to look like. 😉

Mega Bloks Barbie

September 28, 2012

I rarely, very very rarely, report on clone brands, but I really couldn’t pass this one up. Apparently Mega Bloks is feeling the strain from LEGO Friends and will start their own girl specific line partnered with Mattel’s Barbie and, since we can’t leave the boys out of it, Hot Wheels.

Barbie® and Hot Wheels® to be First Mattel Brands Included in New Collection

This strategic alliance leverages the MEGA Bloks brand and its expertise by bringing Mattel’s most powerful properties to life in the fast-growing construction toy category.

The Mega Bloks Barbie™ collection will provide girls with a completely new Barbie play experience. With a focus on creative play and customization, the possibilities are endless. The line will feature Barbie and her friends in a buildable world of fashion and dream locations.

The Mega Bloks Hot Wheels™ collection will center on performance, stunts and the coolest cars. Boys can customize through construction, as vehicle play and construction toys merge to create and build a world of speed and excitement.

“Our exciting partnership with category leader, MEGA Brands, will offer both boys and girls a new way to play with their favorite brands,” says Rosa Zeegers, Senior Vice President Global Consumer Products Licensing for Mattel. “We look forward to continuing to build upon the transformative play experience girls have come to expect when they play with Barbie as well as giving boys the steering wheel to customize their own Hot Wheels brand products.”

We’ll have to wait till next year to see what the sets look like, but I’m not holding my breath.

Sleepy Fisherman

September 26, 2012

Sleepy Fisherman

I like this cute little Miniland scene created by Nick Abalov. I think my favorite part is the clear antenna used as the fishing line.

I don’t normally feature digital models, as I prefer the real thing, but this one struck me as particularly cute and the fact that its Miniland scale, a scale that still isn’t as popular a building style as I’d like.

It reminded me a lot of my own Miniland fishing scene I created a couple years ago 🙂

Finding Nemo

Finding Nemo

Blake Baer has created an awesome and accurate replica of the inside of the fish tank (sans tank) from Finding Nemo. All the characters are there, and even the volcano and little diver. 🙂

The model has a very organic feel to it and the loose 1×1 round plates are a great effect as the rocks on the fish tank bottom.

Miniland Bag End

September 20, 2012

Bag End - 01

Although this model was created about a year ago, I just recently discovered it. Now if you’ve been following me for a while you know that I love Miniland scale, so this one got me extra excited because not only was it the Hobbit, but it’s a Miniland Hobbit

Bag End - 06

I love how well both Gandolf and Bilbo are characterized so well. It only makes me more excited for the official sets that will be available later this year.

“What is this?”

September 19, 2012

What is this?

With Halloween just around the corner and Christmas not far behind (okay not really 😉 ) Matt Armstrong has created Jack from Nightmare Before Christmas.

Of course after he’s built it its obvious to use the new decorated face element from the The Ghost Train as Jack’s face, but then Matt has a talent for using parts in interesting and awesome ways.

Scooby dooby doo!

September 19, 2012

Nathan Proudlove has not only created the Mystery Machine and all of the Scooby Do gang, but he’s put it into a comic strip.

I think my favorite part of it is the skunk costume. And of course I like all the miniland figs too. 😀

Here’s a close up of the whole gang

Joshua Chirstenson created this awesome mosaic.

I love the the horse silhouette and the starry night sky. The image is very dramatic! 😀
