LEGO Tardis

LEGO Tardis

I couldn’t very well make two Doctors and not make the Tardis. So I built this last night too.

I’ve tried in the past to create the time traveling blue box without success. Its tricky to get the distinctive look properly in LEGO, so I’m pretty pleased with the end result. 😀

This is Miniland Scale, so it works well with my two Doctors, but I haven’t taken a proper picture yet. It is just a hair over 7 inches, and due to all the tiles I used, the interior is rather more complex than the plain exterior suggests — much like the real Tardis. 😉

I was going to wait to post the picture till I got the custom tiles made, but I just couldn’t do it. I was too happy to finally have a Tardis of my very own. So I photoshopped all the printing for now.

Maybe now that I’ve got two Doctors and a Tardis, I can go on my own adventure…

So, being me (as I often am), I have to wonder if this is one of those cases where the new bottom-mounted brackets came in handy. I’d have to play around with the idea, but I have a fair idea of how I could replicate the exterior look. The only tricky part is dealing with both horizontal and vertical ribs.

Though now that I think of it, using a Technic backbone down the center of each facing, and flipping the brackets sideways, I’ve got the beginnings of another idea on how to produce the same look.

Of course, since I’ve never really cared for Dr. Who (though I’m tempted give the John Hurt eps a try _only_ because it’s John Hurt), it’s very unlikely that I’ll ever flesh out either idea, and they’ll just vanish into the ether. That does remind me, though, that I really do need to convert Superman’s phone booth to black so it’s more recognizable as not-a-Tardis.

You’re over thinking how I built this Dave. I didn’t use any Technic or the new brackets. I just used a lot of travis bricks and 1×1 bricks with a side stud.

Nonsense. Overthinking stuff like this is how we come up with cool ideas that make other stuff possible when the simple tricks just won’t work.
