As this my first blog I figured that I might as well tell you a little about myself. As I said in my first post, I am Mariann Asanuma and I am a former Master Model Designer from LEGOLAND California. My motto: “From Big to Small I can Build it All!” Although I loved working as a Master Model Designer, I felt that I had more to offer the world. Working at LEGOLAND fulfilled a lifelong dream of mine to become a Master Model Designer.

Ever since I was a little girl, I loved playing with LEGO bricks. But as a child I thought that I would never be able to achieve my dream. How could I? All the LEGO Model Shops were in Europe!!!! That is a very long ways away when you are a kid.

Who would have thought that they would a LEGOLAND just miles away from my home? I remember going opening day and loving the park from the first moment I spent there.

Well, after a few more years, and six times (yes, six times!!!) of applying for a job at LEGOLAND I finally got a seasonal job for two weeks in the retail department. And after a few months of working there, I transfered over to the LEGOLAND Model Shop! Yeah!!!!! I worked at the Model Shop for four years, learning all the techniques and tricks of the Master Model Builders.

As I said, I loved my job, but there was so much more that I needed to do with my life. So last year, right after I completed my last project at LEGOLAND — Miniland Las Vegas (I designed the Vegas sign by the way) — I quit LEGOLAND.

Now I am pursuing another lifelong goal, becoming a well-known author. My series, “Building Secrets from the Masters,” teaches young and old alike, all the tips and techniques I learned while I was at LEGOLAND.
