Hi all, I know I’ve been missing in action for the past many, many days. But I’ve been quite busy working on a model for Carbine Studios and NCSoft — that will be covered in a separate post ๐Ÿ˜‰ — so now that I’ve finally got a little bit of a breather, I can finally post again. Yay!!! ๐Ÿ˜€

And today is a special day for me — It’s my Birthday!!!!!!

Fett Christmas Tree Ornament

November 20, 2013

Fett Xmas Tree Ornament

Its not all that much of a build, but its pretty darn clever non the less. Okay Yaramanoglu made this for the Eurobricks Christmas Raffle that’s going on now through November 28th.

Looks like fun, and I just might have to enter ๐Ÿ˜‰

The small side of life โ€” in Space Part 2

January 26, 2013

Two more awesome creations that would be perfect for the Micro Sci-Fi Contest

Kristi “McWii” has created this iconic scene from The Day the Earth Stood Still
The Day the Earth Stood Still

Jason Allemann has gone old school with this tribute to the Amazing Stories magazines
The City of Tomorrow

Both have levels of awesomeness. I really like the mini tanks. And the whole retro futuristic (is that an oxymoron? ๐Ÿ˜€ ) look of Jason’s is very cool!

Monstrous Red Plated Beetle

January 24, 2013

Monstrous Red Plated Beetle

I wouldn’t want to find this out side my room, at least not if it was real. But hey, this cool LEGO beetle by Bart De Dobbelaer is awesome!

This is just the latest in the Iron Builder contest.

Here’s a couple more he created
Total Wipeout

the Gateway

Keep it up Bart!

The small side of life — in Space!

I love Micro Scale. Its one of those building scales that just doesn’t get as much attention as it should. People always seem more impressed by the large massive models like the LEGO Elvis that I blogged about earlier.

Now don’t get me wrong, the large models are impressive. But what is just as impressive is when you can manage to create something tiny that actually looks good.

Now with the Micro Sci-Fi Contest on Eurobricks there are some pretty stunning things popping up on Flickr.

This creation by Sean and Steph Mayo is jaw dropping in its complexity and awesome part usage.
Ice Planet (Micro Base)

I admit, I had to stare at it for a few minutes to figure out just what was going on with certain areas of the build (the tank treads for example). The integration of Bionicle parts feels natural and totally works — something that doesn’t always happen with some of the awkwardly shaped parts.

Its funny, but when Ice Planet 2002 was introduced in 1993, that seemed like a really long way away. Now, twenty years later (man I feel old) and 11 years after 2002, we still haven’t found that Ice Planet. ๐Ÿ˜€

Here’s a couple more of the entries Micro Sci-Fi Contest —

I look forward to seeing what else comes from this contest. I might just enter my self. ๐Ÿ˜‰

And on a completely non Sci Fi, but related Micro Scale note there’s this little gem —
A tiny slice of suburbia

I love the use of the new roller skate element as cars!!

So if you haven’t built in it — give Micro a chance. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Lollipop Forest from Candy Land

January 13, 2013

Lollipop Forest (Candy Land)

This was one of those models that the thumbnail fooled me. I really thought that the lollipops were real and that only the base and figure were LEGO. Once I looked at the actual photo, I realized it was all LEGO and even the plastic coverings were poly bags from sets!

The model was made for the current Iron Builder contest between Siercon and Coral and Bart De Dobbelaer.

If you are not familiar with the Iron Builder challenges. Two builders are given a specific part and have a time frame to make multiple models with that part. You can read the details of this challenge here.

This is Bart De Dobbelaer’s first model for the contest:
Set Phasers to Obliterate

Iron Builder Contests are always fun as the builders push themselves to the edge of building. I look forward to what other creations will emerge.

Old MacDonald had a cow

January 6, 2013

Old MacDonald had a cow

Josh Morris just created this awesome vignette for the Micro Sci-Fi Contest they are having over at Eurbricks.com.

Unfortunately (or fortunately ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) Josh can’t win because he’s on the Eurobricks staff, so that gives the rest of us a chance. ๐Ÿ˜€

There’s even an awesome trophy made by Simon Liu for the winner:

Vignettes are small and deceptively simple. So get out there and build people!

Germany’s LEGO Design Contest Winner

December 14, 2011

Remember the LEGO Design Challenge I mentioned earlier? Well now we can see what the winner in Germany received.

LEGO mosaic

Brixe63’s son created this entry for the contest.
Christmas tree

What’s great about this model is that it shows you don’t have to make the model overly complex for it to be the winner. And that’s a pretty great design for a Christmas tree, whatever the age. I see a future LEGO Master Builder. ๐Ÿ˜‰
