Ryan Rubino’s newest creation drew me into its web. There is so much that makes this model awesome! The position of the insects, the sense of movement, and the shear size of the model (check out the original size) is amazing. Having dealt with both of these insects in the wild, I certainly wouldn’t want to meet Ryan’s enlarged versions in my backyard. ๐Ÿ˜‰

AFOL A Blocumentary

February 22, 2010

Although I can’t seem to get the video to link directly onto my blog you can watch the video if you click the picture.

This is a nicely in-depth look into the minds and world of the AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO) created by Jess Gibson. The half hour video features several of my North West Coast friends including:

Lino Martins
Thomas Rafert
Wayne Hussy
Mark Neumann
Robin Sather
Jordan Schwartz
Jason Ruff

It was filmed at Brickcon 2009 and at a SEALUG meeting. I really enjoyed watching my friends getting a chance to see BrickCon 09. ๐Ÿ™‚

Doctor Mobius’ Cloud Moth

February 5, 2010

I posted last year the work in progress of Doctor Mobius’s Mantis made for the Battle Bugs display at BrickCon 09. Well now Jason (aka Doctor Mobius) has created a Cloud Moth for Battle Bugs latest challenge Bred for War.

The only thing more epic than the model is the description:

The MDF SB-17 “Cloud Moth” is the Mars Defense Force’s first battle bug designed to project force to other plants. It is designed with a jump drive for FTL travel, Ion Engines for high speed realspace missions, and scramjets for atmospheric missions making it able to complete a wide variety of attack missions.

The Cloud Moth’s scramjets are unique to space fighters of it’s class. While it’s Ion engines are more than capable of propelling it through the atmosphere at supersonic speeds, engaging the jets allows for much greater fuel efficiency as well as cutting the craft’s active flight emissions by 95%. It’s wide wingspan allows it to use only it’s jets in even the thinnest of atmospheres. . .

This is just a third of it! If you would like to read the whole thing, click the picture. ๐Ÿ˜‰

My first thought when I saw this was of Godzilla’s arch-nemesis Mothra. ๐Ÿ˜€

Battle Bugs!

May 28, 2009

Over on Flickr, my friend Lino along with a couple other insect minded gentlemen have created a new group, and I predict a new fad, known as Battle Bugs! ๐Ÿ˜€

Jason writes:
The name says it all. Do you build Lego? Do you like make bugs? Do they Battle? Then this is the group for you.

At Brickfest ’09 Mark Neuman and I both brought large robotic bugs to the space table. Once we saw each other’s work, we set them up so they were fighting and Lego Battle Bugs was born. Now Battle Bugs is going to be a theme at Brickcon ’09 in October. Here’s a place to share your ideas for and pictures of mechanized brick bugs. There’s no limit to style, theme, or design. Bionicle, Castle, Space, Mechs, heck even Belville. The more the better.

Even as a work in progress, this just had to be posted

I’m very excited to see what comes out of this group. I just might have to add something of my own, when time permits. From what I’ve seen so far, this will be a great addition to BrickCon 09! ๐Ÿ˜‰
