Building, Building, Building

March 3, 2014

Sorry for the lack of posts everyone. I’ve been so busy with commissions, which I will talk about as soon as I’m able, that I haven’t had much time at all for doing anything else including keeping up with my blog here. Its a good / bad thing. Good because I’m busy and have several projects going on at once. Bad, because I don’t get to post or write about all the news and new stuff that’s happening with LEGO.

This week there are two LEGO Conventions happening —

And BrickWorld Indy

Normally I’d be going to BricksCascade, but this year with all the work I have to do, I just can’t make it. My products — keychains and jewelry — will be available through BrickShirts at BricksCascade and through Milton Train Works at BrickWorld Indy. So at least part of me will be there. πŸ™‚

I do post quick things on my Model Building Secrets Facebook page so be sure to like and follow it.

One of the things I’m kind of excited about is the announcement by LEGO Cuusoo that the issues with Doctor Who licensing have been resolved. In the few days since that was posted, several projects, including one by a friend of mine —

I urge you to support it and any others that strike your fancy. πŸ˜‰

Also the first image of the rumored SandCrawler set has popped up — thanks to someone finding it in the new expanded LEGO Star Wars: The Visual Dictionary: Updated and Expanded

Via:BrickFan

More images will be popping up soon as I’ve heard it will be unveiled officially at BricksCascade. I do have the old SandCrawler — the only set to contain Jawas — and that’s the main reason I bought it. This one certainly looks better, but its also possibly $350 USD! If that is the price, that’s rather pricey in my opinion. I still haven’t picked up the Ewok Village. Its a great looking set — but at $250 I’m still on the fence with it. And since I have my jawas from the first one, I don’t know if I’ll be picking up one of these this time around.

So what do you think? Will you be picking up the new SandCrawler?

Long time no post

March 15, 2013

Wow, I’ve now gone longer than I’ve ever wanted to go without posting here and I really do apologize for the three week absence.

Going to Emerald City Comic Con and BricksCascade sounded like such a good idea when I left my house February 25th and drove the 1200+ miles to Seattle. And it was a fun trip with much hanging out with friends and meeting of new people. But the crazy thing is that I’m still not home!

I have one more day of driving and around 200+ miles left before I finally make it back to my house. 😯

Over the course of my trip I’ve gone up to Seattle, Washington then to Portland, Oregon and I’m on the last leg of a journey that’s taken me almost 3 weeks to complete.

I shall be posting both images and posts of both Emerald City Comic Con and BricksCascade once I finally recuperate from this crazy trip.

But there are some great photos of both on Flickr.

Emerald City Comicon Logo
You can find a whole set of ECCC photos on Sean Edmison’s photostream. (Okay I know I’m posting my own mosaic, but a lot of people took pictures of it and even ECCC posted it on their Facebook page πŸ˜‰ )

Bricks Cascade 2013
LEGO’s own Kevin Hinkle has a nice set of photos of BricksCascade 2013 including some nice crowd shots that I was too busy to get while working my vendor booth.

So was the trip worth it? Well the jury’s still out on that one. I’ll have more to say about that later.

Right now all I can say is its been a long, long trip and driving what will end up being a total of 2,700 miles total by the time I get home by myself isn’t really all that great. I love road trips, but they are much better shared with at least one other person who can take the wheel now and then and talk to you as you try and stay away.

Thankfully (knock on the proverbial wood) I haven’t had any problems so far and I will get home safe and sound by the end of today.

So for now signing off and regular posting will resume shortly. πŸ™‚

Tardis and K-9

February 6, 2013

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m prepping for my two upcoming conventions — one a Comic Con, one a LEGO Con.

One of my goals for each new convention that I go to is to have new products to sell. And because the first convention is a Comic Con, I wanted more iconic Pop Culture products. So I created these two new models for Doctor Who fans.

K9 keychain 1

Now for the LEGO purists out there — yes, both of these are cheated. I can see you wincing from here, but frankly I don’t care. How do you think new LEGO parts are made? You have to “break” the mold as it were.

And the main reason I’ve “cheated” is because it was the best way to make the models the desired size of about an inch and to look as close to the original at that size.

Oh, and for those of you that don’t know what cheating means it is when you cut or alter your bricks or just glue parts on where they other wise could not connect.

For both of these models I’ve done both.

And if you’re wondering most of my online and in person customers don’t care either. πŸ˜‰

I think they are simply adorable (even if I do say so my self πŸ˜€ ) and if you are interested in either model you can find them at my Folded Fancy Creations Etsy Shop.

BricksCascade just around the corner

February 2, 2013

Have nothing to do the second weekend of March? Why not come and join us at BricksCascade in Portland, Oregon?

For full attendees, the fun starts on March 7th and goes through March 10th. Last year was a lot of fun and this year looks like it is shaping up to be a good one too. And of course there will be public hours Saturday and Sunday. I’ll be there all weekend. Its the first of 4-5 LEGO Cons I plan on attending this year, and I always have fun at them. πŸ™‚

Need another reason to come? You can purchase this awesome shirt created by the one and only Doctor Mobius (aka Jason). πŸ˜‰

If you can’t come, I will of course be there and do my best to cover it here on my blog.

I will also be attending Emerald City Comic Con for the first time the week before that in Seattle March 1st-3rd. I’ll be talking more about this event soon. If you happen to be going to that, I will be at the BrickShirts booth or at the LEGO layout so come by and say hi. πŸ™‚

LEGO Batman 2 is almost here!

June 8, 2012

In just a little over a week LEGO Batman 2 the Video Game will be out for all platforms — June 19th the be precise (at least here in the States). I loved the original game and with the addition of the Justice League characters, I can only see the new game as an improvement on a winning formula.

And if you pre-order the game as I just did today, you get an exclusive Lex Luthor fig!

I plan on doing a full in depth review of the game as soon as I get my hands on a copy and have time to play it. I still haven’t finished LEGO Harry Potter 2 or LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean, but we won’t mention that. πŸ˜‰

Of course that is the kicker isn’t it — time. As you’ve probably noticed I’ve been so busy doing fun and interesting projects and trips that I’ve had no time to properly blog any of it! Its really and truly as frustrating to me to not blog as it is for you to only see the same posts for days on end.

After next week’s trip to BrickWorld Chicago I don’t have any other trips planned until BrickFair in August. So maybe I’ll have a little breathing room. There is the San Diego Comic Con in next month too, but at least I don’t have to fly anywhere.

Three conventions — Phoenix Comicon, BricksCascade, and BrickWorld — in 4 weeks has been a little much for me, especially as I’m still not recovered from my Florida trip and the project that came right after that one. And of course, as it is Wedding season, my Wedding Cake Toppers are selling like hot cakes and I’m trying to fulfill orders between trips.

I’m busier than ever and my blog is sadly the thing that suffers the most from it. But I can’t complain. A business is supposed to grow and evolve, I just need to learn to grow and evolve a little more. πŸ˜‰

Sorry for lack of posts

June 3, 2012

Hi all, I know I’ve been majorly lax on the posting side. If you’ve been following my Facebook or Twitter you’ll know that I’ve been rather busy lately going first to Phoenix last weekend for a Comicon, and this weekend to Portland for BricksCascade — if you aren’t following me on one or the other, why not? πŸ˜‰

Anyhow because of all this travel I’ve not had sufficient time to do a proper post. And even this one will be brief as I have the last day of BricksCascade that starts a rather early public day at 9 am (which is in less than an hour from now) and I have to get ready to leave my hotel and get over to the convention hall. Luckily its only a short walk so I can make it.

So since I don’t have any time to give you a rundown of all the stuff I’ve been doing, I’ll post some cool pics I found through my Flickr contacts.

In no particular order and for no particular reason except because they are cool:

I’ll be getting home on Tuesday, and I won’t be going to BrickWorld until the next week so I’ll have a brief bit of downtime before my next trip to catch up on all the craziness that is my life. πŸ™‚
