Fashion Valley LEGO Store Opening

October 14, 2011

The Fashion Valley LEGO Store Grand Opening is this weekend in San Diego. For all of you who are locals like me I’d encourage you to come on down and participate. For those of you who don’t live in the area, I’ll be covering both the Fashion Valley and Mission Viejo store openings after this weekend is over as they have the same building event — SpongeBob Squarepants.

Join in the weekend-long grand opening celebrations and LEGO Master Builder Event! Help a LEGO Master Builder construct an 8-foot tall LEGO model and get a free certificate of achievement for participating! Plus, when you make a qualifying purchase at the new LEGO Store, you could receive an exclusive LEGO minifigure set and a collectible, limited-edition LEGO t-shirt!

That’s right, not only am I going to this Grand Opening, I was at the one in Mission Viejo last weekend. Helping out at these events is fun, but can make you very tired! But its all in good fun and I love being a part of it. 🙂

I built both feet in about a day.

If you want to see pictures of the Mission Viejo opening before I talk about it here, you can see them on my Flickr set.

Master Builder Event at Downtown Disney

May 18, 2011

Normally there’s a little bit more than a two week warning on these things, especially for those of us helping to run the event, but this Memorial Day weekend there is a Building Event going on at the Downtown Disney LEGO Store in Anaheim, CA.

LEGO Store Master Builder Event!

Help a real LEGO Master Builder construct an 8-foot tall LEGO R2-D2!

Friday, May 27: 11am – 7pm
Saturday, May 28: 10am – 6pm

If you live in the area, you should definitely come and check it out. I’m planning on going, at least for one of the days. I’ve never done one at Downtown Disney, but LEGO Building Events are always fun. 🙂

Building Display Sets

March 1, 2011

I mentioned earlier about the Brand Ribbon Models for the LEGO Store that my LUG (LEGO User Group) was asked to build for the new Costa Mesa LEGO Store. Well imagine my surprise when I got three huge boxes last week that was filled with LEGO sets!

Man, when I got all these models it was like Christmas! 66 sets were sent to my house and at first I didn’t know why they had sent them to me, but then a quick conversation with the new LEGO store manager I found out that they were all the sets on display. And it wasn’t just small sets — Ultimate Collector Imperial Shuttle, Harry Potter Diagon Alley, and the Tower Bridge were also included.

So there was nothing to do but gather some of my fellow LUG members and have another building party! 😀

Some models took only minutes to build (Hero Factory) while others took hours. We all had a fun time and the chance to build a whole bunch of LEGO sets was just plain cool. 🙂

We’ll be setting all of these models up at the store this Sunday and then next weekend is the Grand Opening!

I’ll be there all weekend and I plan on covering the weekend here for all of you who can’t make it. But for those of you who can, I look forward to seeing you there! 😉

World’s Largest LEGO Minifigure

June 5, 2010

Recently in the Netherlands they built the World’s Tallest LEGO Tower. As part of the event they asked Robert of Amazing Brick Creations to design a the World’s Largest LEGO Minifig.

During the World’s Largest LEGO tower Event June 2010 held in Limmen children also build their own World Record: World’s Largest LEGO mini figure. This so called Dutch Flower Girl is build using around 135.500 LEGO bricks. She is 3,648 m tall and weight 300+ kg!
821 Children, 100+ parents, teachers and many volunteers helped building.

I was actually involved in the planning, if from very far away. That’s why I love the internet, you can connect with people all over the world. 😀

Robert contacted me because although he has experience building, he had never designed or built something so large, plus he didn’t know how to plan a building event. As I have done both designing in large scale and building events, I was able to help him through a series of emails to plan it out.

From the looks of the video it came out great. Congrats to Robert and all the people involved in this event! 🙂

San Diego Comic Con 2009 — Thursday

July 24, 2009

Okay, I was planning on posting last night, but I was a little (well actually a lot) tired. For those who haven’t been, Comic Con can be intense!!!!

Well, LEGO premiered the new Toy Story and Prince of Persia minifigs.

No price points or official release dates yet, and sorry about the poor quality of some of the photos, its a little hard to get a good shot through the display case. You can see better pictures at FBTB.net

As I also mentioned, two of my models are on display this year at the TwoMorrows Publishing booth — publisher of BrickJournal. I have my LEGO Batman Mosaic and my Comic Con logo on display. I was given permission from Comic Con to create their logo.

LEGO also has SEVEN Comic Con exclusives this year! They are all Star Wars related, because it is the tenth anniversary of LEGO Star Wars. There are two micro ships for the BrickMaster exclusive (you have to go in a raffle to get the “chance” to buy it), sorry I haven’t taken a picture yet. There are six sets of 3 Star Wars minifigures — one exclusively for each day of the Con (also a raffle), and one that is available the whole Convention. They are all $50 each. A little pricey for my personal taste, but they are selling like hot cakes!

For the first time at Comic Con, LEGO is having a building event. That was the project I was working on today with fellow Model Builder Mark. It is a mystery mosaic build (sorry no picture yet). I know what it is, but I’m not telling. 😉

On the video game front, Warner Brothers is premiering LEGO Rock Band!

I still haven’t gotten to play the game yet, but from what I’ve seen, I really want the game!

DK Publishing also had their LEGO Star Wars Visual Dictionary panel today where they officially announced the ceremonial Luke minifig. I’ll get a picture up soon.

That’s all for now, I have to get up really early (4am) to get decent parking. I’ll try for some more pictures and more updates tomorrow.
