3,000 Bricks, 46 seconds, One LEGO Face

July 8, 2011

Check out my friend Master Model Builder Ryan  Ziegelbauer as he builds the face of Sarah Chan winner of the  the Junior Master Model Builder Ultimate Build Off  in January at LEGOLAND California.

If you miss it the first time watch it again to see all the fun extra stuff that travels along Ryan’s desk as he builds. 😀

NY Toy Fair 2011 — Part 1

February 13, 2011

As I still have not made it to the New York Toy Fair, I have to rely on others like Joe Meno of BrickJournal that are on sight. The Captain Jack Sparrow model is on display but LEGO also unveiled another, equally iconic Disney Model — Lightning McQueen

Containing 325,000 bricks, this model weighs 3 tons, measures 12.5 x 6.5 x 4.5 feet, and took 2,000 hours for Master Model Builders to create!

Joe already has a large amount of photos on his Flickr stream of all the new and exciting LEGO models that will be coming out this year. The new themes and elements make me really excited for LEGO this year. I will be posting additional photos from Joe’s Flickr stream and talking about all the new themes in coming posts.

Collectible Minifigures now at Toys R Us

May 21, 2010

First Set of Figs 1

The rumors of Collectible Minifigures showing up at Toys R Us are true. I just went to my local TRU and I found several different figures. Unfortunately someone had gotten a whole bunch before I did and certain figures were already gone. 😦

But I can’t complain too much, I did get 9 different figures. 🙂

I know everyone has their favorites, but I actually like all of them. They all have their uses. New faces, hair, and elements.

Some interesting things to note is that the diver’s flippers are a harder plastic and aren’t connected to each other, the Forestman’s feather is also individual, the Wrestler’s cape isn’t in a cardboard case so it was a little tricky to tell what he was.

You can feel the figures in the bag, it is a little tricky but it can be done. I know there are barcodes, but what’s the fun in that? 😉

I even made a quick table scrap model with one of the figures

Not only were the new Collectible Minifigures at Toys R Us, but they also had several new City, Power Miners, World Racers, Castle, and even Disney’s Cars Duplo.

I picked up the new Wizard set.

I have to say my favorite part is the printed tile. It even has an awesome quote — “You are far more powerful than you would ever imagine . . .”

Definitely a must have for any Castle fan out there.

So, if you are hankering for a new set, check out your local Toys R Us and see what you find. 🙂

To Infinity and Beyond . . . LEGO

February 16, 2009

What a perfect combo — LEGO and Disney. It has just been announced that LEGO and Disney will team up next year. Toy Story, Cars and Prince of Persia all will get a LEGO make over.

Toy Story

Children’s imaginations will go “To infinity and beyond” when, beginning in 2010, they will be able to re-create the adventures of Buzz Lightyear and Woody with LEGO toys inspired by the Toy Story franchise. Toy Story-themed construction sets will be available on both LEGO DUPLO and LEGO System platforms, building the adventure and fun for children ages 2-12. LEGO System products based on Toy Story and Toy Story 2 will launch in January 2010, to be followed in May by construction sets based on the new animated feature, Toy Story 3, scheduled to hit theaters in Disney Digital 3D June 2010. Toy Story-themed LEGO DUPLO products launch in June 2010.

Cars

Lightning McQueen will rev his engine at the starting line of a DUPLO portfolio that will have young builders creating and exploring the high-octane world of the Cars franchise. The Cars-themed LEGO DUPLO line will feature iconic scenes from Radiator Springs and the Piston Cup Championship raceway and will feature favorite Cars characters like McQueen, Mater and Sally. Cars-themed LEGO DUPLO products are scheduled to launch in June 2010.

Prince of Persia

A line of LEGO System construction toys based on Walt Disney Pictures’ and Jerry Bruckheimer Films’ Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, directed by Mike Newell and scheduled to release in May 2010 is also in development. The film, based on the best-selling video game franchise of the same name, stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Ben Kingsley, Alfred Molina and Gemma Arterton in an epic tale of Prince Dastan’s struggle to stop an evil ruler from unleashing a sandstorm that could destroy the world. Prince of Persia-themed LEGO products are scheduled to launch in April 2010.

I’m pretty excited about this one! Just think Buzz and Woody minifigs, or even better L.G.M.s (Little Green Men)! It will be interesting to see what famous scenes will be used as sets. I wonder what Prince of Persia sets will be like. I don’t really play the game, but I could see how the sets could be really cool. I guess we will just have to wait and see. 😉
