LUGOLA, the LA LEGO group will be helping out with the build. I would be up there too, but I can’t make it this weekend.

As you can probably guess, I’ve been pretty busy recently. Which is why I haven’t been posting much lately. And that’s also why I won’t be at the building event. One of my commissions is taking me to Florida this Sunday. 😀

I still don’t know if I will be able to post about this commission, I have to get permission from my clients, but as I will be heading down to the Sunshine State I plan on visiting both LEGOLAND Florida and the LEGO Imagination Center Store at Downtown Disney.

I have some pretty interesting commissions right now and I should be able to share some of them with you a little later so stay tuned. 😉

Bricks by the Bay 2012 Recap

March 31, 2012

Okay, so its a tad late, but I’ve finally found a bit of breathing space to sit down and talk about Bricks by the Bay 2012.

As always, I love going to LEGO Cons! They are just downright fun and I love hanging out with friends. 🙂

I did make a bit of a mistake this year though, I agreed to do too much!

Not only was I a vendor as always, but I also agreed to give 2 presentations and participate in 2 panels as well as being the Art Theme coordinator.

And although I did love making the Art trophies, I wasn’t very good at coordinating, mainly because I wasn’t there. 😦

That coupled with a semi-accident while driving up there — don’t worry, I didn’t get hurt or anything, but I did puncture 2 tires and have to get a whole set of new ones 400 miles from home — kind of wore me out.

I had planned to drive back down to Southern California on Monday, but I totally underestimated my exhaustion factor. I ended up staying up there one more day and checked out the Winchester Mystery House, which was only a few miles from the convention — I see a potential MOC, that’s all I’m saying. 😉

Needless to say, I won’t be doing as much next year.

One of my favorite models this year was Bill Ward’s Kermit
BBTB 2012: Kermit

I was happy he won my Supreme Sculptor Art Award. 😀

And it was no surprise that Norbert Labuguen almost exclusively swept the Bionicle category.

I really liked this Tron model

I didn’t get nearly enough pictures, but Bill Ward took quite a few. 😉

As seems to be common now, I didn’t get to see or do everything I wanted too, but even so, it was the fun start to my LEGO Con season.

Oh yes, it is a season of conventions for me this year. Not only am I planning on going to 5 LEGO Cons, 2 Comic Cons, but also one or two other Cons this year! I’m not complaining mind you, I’m just looking at a very hectic year. I was already planning all these trips in January, and since they go till October I was a little amazed that my year was already so full! 😀

Hopefully I’ll do a little better reporting at my next convention. I will be working a commission at a convention next month, and if I’m allowed, I’ll post about it, but I have to wait and see if I get permission.

One fun fact I can say about it is that it will be in Florida and since I’ll be down there any way, I plan on visiting LEGOLAND Florida and the LEGO Downtown Disney store to check out all the cool models with my own eyes. Of course I’ll be checking out the other theme parks as well, especially as the trip just happens to fall on my birthday. 😉

In May I’ll be at the Phoenix Comicon. I’ll have some of my LEGO models on display with the local LEGO LUG and if I have time, a new mosiac for the event. So I will certainly be talking about that as it gets closer.

Master Builder Event at Downtown Disney

May 18, 2011

Normally there’s a little bit more than a two week warning on these things, especially for those of us helping to run the event, but this Memorial Day weekend there is a Building Event going on at the Downtown Disney LEGO Store in Anaheim, CA.

LEGO Store Master Builder Event!
May 27 – 29

Help a real LEGO Master Builder construct an 8-foot tall LEGO R2-D2!

Friday, May 27: 11am – 7pm
Saturday, May 28: 10am – 6pm
Sunday, May 29: 10am – 6pm

You’ll get a free LEGO Star Wars Certificate of Achievement for helping, while supplies last! Plus, visit the LEGO Store during the event to enter for a chance to win a $50 LEGO Store Gift Card! No purchase necessary to enter.

If you live in the area, you should definitely come and check it out. I’m planning on going, at least for one of the days. I’ve never done one at Downtown Disney, but LEGO Building Events are always fun. 🙂

Disneyland’s Castle in a LEGO Mosaic

August 10, 2009

P1140184

This model is on display at the LEGO store in Downtown Disney at Disneyland here in California. I was uploading some pictures of a trip I took to Disneyland in January and saw this picture. I’d seen the model several times, but I hadn’t posted a picture of it till now. From what I understand, it was built by the workers at the store several years ago, but they didn’t design it. I’m guessing that it was probably designed by the Model Shop in Enfield, Connecticut.

If you’ve seen some of my mosaics you probably know that I don’t build in the studs up style. Still, I can appreciate when others do. 🙂

The new Pirate sets are starting to come out!

November 10, 2008

Recently I was at LEGOLAND and I saw that the new Pirate Ship Blackbeard’s Bounty and the Soldier’s Fort sets! These are the first of the 2009 line, conveniently available just before Christmas.

On Joe Meno’s Flicker Photostream he shows us the entire line. It is currently available at Downtown Disney at Disney World. I don’t know if they are at Disneyland yet or any of the LEGO stores, but keep your heads up. I’m sure that they will be available at other places soon. Also, here’s a tip, if you don’t live by a LEGO store, you can always call them, or LEGOLAND, and they will ship it to you. That is if you can’t wait till the sets are available on LEGO.com 😉
