Banning Art Hop 2010 Recap

May 3, 2010

The Banning Art Hop turned out to be a great event! πŸ™‚ Kids loved all the LEGO I brought for them do play with (thanks Matt Armstrong for letting me borrow his bricks). I also brought several LEGO models to display:

And in case you are wondering, yes that is a 5 foot long Golden Gate Bridge behind the Garbage Truck. It was originally designed for an event that didn’t end up happening. I’ve been holding on to the prototype for months and haven’t gotten around to build it till now (with some help from Kevin Rooten). The model isn’t completely finished, it is still missing the smaller cables that connect the bridge to the main cable. I was planning on making this for Bricks by the Bay, but with the Scripps Hospital project, I didn’t have time.

I want to thank the Banning Cultural Alliance and Waste Management for inviting me up to the Art Hop 2010 event and all the kids and LEGO fans that came to see me. I also have to thank my friend Kara Hildreth for coming up with me and helping with the event.

Art Hop 2010

April 30, 2010

Hi all, I’m up in Banning, California for Art Hop 2010 happening tomorrow, May 1st.

One of the main sponsors of the event is Waste Management and because of that they asked me to make a replica of one of their garbage trucks.

Now normally I leave car building to Lino Martins of LUGNuts. Its not that I can’t do it, I’m just not a car person. But a model is a model and so I present the LEGO Waste Management Garbage Truck:

I was sent a scale replica toy truck as to work off from. (It’s the smaller one.) πŸ˜€

For some reason I found it a bit tricky to get started on this model and so instead of starting the prototype from the bottom I started from the top. Figuring out all the intricacies of the vehicle was a fun challenge. And, since the toy had two garbage cans with it I had to make LEGO ones too. πŸ˜‰

The model is about 18 inches long and took me around a week to design and build. You can see the full set of images on Flickr. I find it pretty funny that I happen to make a garbage truck just when LEGO is releasing an offical Toy Story 3 garbage truck.

If you are in the Riverside area, come by and visit me at my booth and say hi!

LEGO Toy Story 3 7599 Garbage Truck Getaway

Toys R Us will have a LEGO Toy Story 3 Exclusive, the Garbage Truck Getaway. The price will be $44.99 for 402 pieces and from the looks of it, there are a lot of good elements in this set. πŸ™‚

New toy alien minifig, “dirty” Buzz, purple bear, and Jessie. Not to mention the garbage truck itself. The design is excellent and all those fun dark green elements make it that much more cool.

There are small images popping up on of the rest of the LEGO Toy Story 3 line including the first images I’ve seen of the Toy Story Duplo sets. I generally stay away from Duplo (other than promo bricks) since I don’t have any kids, but for these I might make an exception — especially for the LGM (Little Green Man) Alien. πŸ˜€
