Smaug the Tremendous

August 13, 2012

I know, I know, I’ve been gone from posting for several days. I’m creating giant bricks — really giant bricks. I’ll post more about that later. But for now check this out —

Smaug the Tremendous

Fat Tony (no, that’s really his Flickr handle :D) has created this super awesome Smaug in preparation for the upcoming Hobbit trilogy, which means we probably won’t see the great dragon till at least the second movie.

I love the dragon, but I also love the golden hoard that he is perched upon. I also love what he said about it:
“I have to be honest about the treasure, most of it is gold foil I got from a craft store. I used real LEGO coins to make imprints into the foil and then draped it around a LEGO base. Then I spread the real stuff around, pretty convincing, huh?”

And even the floor is an awesome technique. My reaction — “So Pretty!!!!”

Now all we need is an invisible Bilbo Baggins trading riddles. πŸ˜‰

Creations for Charity 2010 - Marine Toys for Tots Teddy Bear

Although this was blogged on Brothers Brick it was too cute not to make a mention of it here. Albert U created this adorable Toys for Tots Teddy Bear for Nannan’s Creations for Charity donation drive.

The bricks alone are worth over $200 and uses many rare parts including the dark blue elements, the gold round 1×1 plates, and the tan cheese slopes. You can order this and many other one of a kind sculptures on Nannan’s Bricklink store. Its all for charity, so I’d highly recommend checking it out. πŸ™‚

The Pirate Advent Calendar Review β€” Day 24

Pirate Advent Calendar Day 24 copy

At the very back of the cave, glowing in a beam of sunlight lies an overflowing treasure chest. Diamonds, sapphires, and rubies the size of a man’s fist along with piles of gold are spilling onto the ground. This is what Captain Brickbeard was seeking. His very own hidden treasure. The only problem is the raft they brought with them will never carry this many jewels and gold.

Deciding that the treasure is fairly safe where it is, Brickbeard and Janey Blackheart decide to bury most of it so that even if others come to this island all they will find is the ancient temple and nothing else. The gems and gold they kept out is more than the average king’s ransom.

The three make their way to the beach and take the raft back out to sea. Reaching the ship in the dark of night. Captain Brickbeard and Janey Blackheart climb up the hidden ladder into the Captian’s cabin window while Simon rows the raft to the side of the ship calling for aide.

Brickbeard emerges from the cabin. Seeing the castaway, he orders his men to bring the man aboard. “Introducing” himself Simon explains that he was abandoned on an island many years ago and only now has escaped. Much to the surprise of his men, Brickbeard invites Simon aboard and offers to return him to his home.

The Brick Pearl sails away, leaving the island and its secrets far behind. πŸ˜€

Pirate Advent Calendar Day 15

Knowing that the visitors are looking for something, the mermaid is glad that they can’t get to her own treasure.

Years ago when a massive storm tossed the upper levels of the sea she found her beautiful jewel. It had been part of gift to some far off king from some equally far off land. The storm was so strong that it broke the ship apart spilling the jewels, gold and people into the cold, dark waters. The crew would have drowned if not for the quick action of the mermaid. She saved them all.

While swimming through the wreckage later she found the gem. Placing the pink ruby in a white shell for safe keeping, she asked a friendly shark to guard it. Occasionally she brings the jewel to the surface, she loves how it sparkles in the sunlight.

The Last Supper (Chrome Version) 3

At the latest SANDlug (San Diego LEGO Users Group) Meeting. My good friend Bill Vollbrecht (a Master Model Designer and the LEGOLAND California Art Director) brought one of his latest creations — the Last Supper in Chrome Gold and Silver. Well it is a tad irreverent, so is Bill’s sense of humor. πŸ˜‰

Seeing so much chrome all in one place like that can be a little blinding! πŸ˜€
