LEGO Board Game Monster 4

October 25, 2009

The LEGO Board Games won’t be available in the States till next year, but considering the season, I figured I’d post this very timely set. Over at Eurobricks Oky Wan Kenobi has posted a review of Monster 4.

I really like the different heads and the built spider (although he does only have 6 legs). 😉 Also, if you notice on the front of the box that the spider has 1×1 round plates with a hole in the middle. This is a new piece. I don’t know if this will replace existing 1×1 round plates, hopefully it will be in addition too. I can see some good uses for that piece already. And of course it comes with the new dice piece.

The one thing this set doesn’t have is any of the Microfigs that I mentioned in a previous post.

I finally got a chance to look at the Microfig at my SandLUG meeting last week. Andy Grubb, one of LEGOLAND’s Master Model Builders had bought the new set Creationary when he was in Denmark recently.

Although they have been tried in the past, the new LEGO Board Games seem to have been better thought out and better packaged. They certainly peaked my interest from the first time I saw them and I look forward to purchasing at least a few of them when they come out.

A good look at the Microfigures for the upcoming LEGO board games

May 26, 2009

We’ve been getting glimpses and glances at these Microfigs all year, but finally we see 18 of the Microfigures for new LEGO board games. The more I see them, the more I want them. 😀 I’m really liking the Castle, Space and Mayan (?) figures.

According to Brothers Brick the board games will “first (be) launched in Europe this August before hitting the rest of the world in 2010.”

A game by any other name

Recently on Eurobricks I found images of the the new LEGO board games that are coming out this summer. Still no word on whether they will be available in the States yet.

From the looks of this, Creationary is basically Pictionary with LEGO bricks. Or it might be similar to the old Creator game that came out a few years ago.

Minotarus looks interesting. For the first time LEGO is venturing into an ancient Greek theme. Who knows if this will manifest itself into an actual Greek Minifig theme. Considering that Playmobile has had a Gladiator theme for a while now, it would be cool if they went in a similar direction.

Pirate Code looks pretty cool too.

There are more images on this site. One of the images shows Lunar Command, which has a space/UFO theme. It also has a close up of the new dice and you can see one of the Microfigs (the game pieces) in the background. From that it looks like the Microfig is only one piece, not two as some have speculated, and that the head is smaller than the standard Minifig head.

Legomilk posted a list of the ten games that will be available:
