Boo!

October 31, 2012

Boo!

Found this awesome picture by Walter Benson that’s just perfect for Halloween night.

Its a modified version of the polybag set that was available at Target.

Even without the scary lighting, the model looks pretty cool
Ghost and Clock

Just the thing to add a bit of LEGO fright on this spooky night. Happy Halloween! 😉

A Vampire is Born (Built) in New Orleans

October 1, 2012

I posted earlier about the building event that happened this past weekend. Well, here’s some pictures for those of us who couldn’t make it down there.

Its looks pretty cool, but you don’t really get the true scale until you see Master Model Builder Erik Varszegi building it.

And here’s an awesome time lapse video of the whole thing being put together.

This particular building event held its own set of challenges —

1. It was outside at night, in the rain! Those lightening flashes aren’t special effects added to make the video more dramatic, it really was a dark and stormy night 😀

2. The fact that it was an all night event finishing at 6:15 am in the morning. I’ve done these types of events many times, but never over night.

Great work from Erik and LEGO for pulling off this impressive model!

Update:If you are able to go to LEGOLAND California this weekend October 6th and 7th you too can get a chance to build Lord Vampire with Master Model Builder Ryan Ziegelbauer.

Micro Modular Haunted House

September 28, 2012

Jens Ohrndorf has created this awesome micro version of the new Monster Fighters Haunted House set.

It is packed full of techniques, especially for its size. It would have been nice to see it in sand green, but in a mix of dark grey and dark bley (new dark grey) its more like what I would picture a haunted house to look like. 😉

“What is this?”

September 19, 2012

What is this?

With Halloween just around the corner and Christmas not far behind (okay not really 😉 ) Matt Armstrong has created Jack from Nightmare Before Christmas.

Of course after he’s built it its obvious to use the new decorated face element from the The Ghost Train as Jack’s face, but then Matt has a talent for using parts in interesting and awesome ways.

Monsters, Rockers and Business Card Holders

August 15, 2012

A few new sets are starting to appear. First there was the Beach Set that came out earlier this year, now there are two more offerings. Remember when LEGO Rock Band came out, I kept saying we needed a set, well this is probably the closest we’ll ever get.

They are basically the same as the collectible minifigure versions except with slight color variations and brick built instruments.

There’s also a Monster Fighter’s set that is similarly packaged.

The both retail at $14.99 USD, and are already available at LEGOLAND California. Most likely they will appear at the LEGO Stores soon.

There is also a new official Business Card Holder set. Although not as cool as the Business Card Holder I make, its still pretty awesome. 😉

LEGO Business Card Holder Parts List

Also available currently at LEGOLAND California and retails for $16.99. For me the most exciting thing is the return of the letter tiles that were last seen in 2004. I got a whole bunch of the letter tiles then, and I’ll most likely buy a good selection of them now.

Thanks to my friend Jason for letting me know about the sets and Eurobricks for the images of the two minifig sets. 🙂

The Haunted House of my Dreams

June 9, 2012

I’m sure everyone has a “MOC Bucket List” — the models you dream of making some day. I’ve had a MOC list for a very long time. Ever since I was little I’ve had certain models that I’ve wanted to make — an entire castle valley, a Miniland scale house, and — a Haunted House. (Just to name a few)

We got a brief glimpse in the Ultimate Collector R2-D2 video when the model was “accidentally” left on the table. 😉

Well now we can see it in all its awesomeness and LEGO has come up with one as good as anything I could have built!

This year is really pushing my wallet to the breaking point, but LEGO just keeps coming out with such cool sets! 😀
