Pirate Advent Calendar Day 23

After stepping carefully around the skeleton, they go further into the cavern temple. At the end of the next corridor they find a shrine with a skull as its main feature. Curiously, the sconces are lighted. Are the descendants of the ancient ones still maintaining the shrine? Simon says he has seen no one on the island except himself in all the years he has been here. It is yet another mystery they may never find the answers to.

Pop-up Golden Pavilion in LEGO

October 19, 2009

The Golden Pavilion or Kinkaku-ji is one of Japan’s most treasured landmarks. Now the builder known only as Talapz on Youtube has built it out of LEGO in a way I’ve never seen before — Pop-up!

What’s really cool is that you can kind of see how the building was designed at the end of the video. How Talapz managed to get the look of the Golden Pavilion while figuring out how to make it a Pop-up is pretty mind blowing. 😯

A few years ago I was fortunate enough to go to the real Golden Pavilion in Kyoto. It is a stunning building that is actually leafed in gold.

Of course the day I went the weather wasn’t quite as beautiful, we had snow, rain, hail and sunshine –sometimes two at once — that day.

Now that Talapz has figured out how to do a Pop-up, I’m wondering if someone will do it again. (Not that that is a suggestion or anything.) 😉
