A Rose is a Rose, except when it isn’t

February 13, 2012

La vie en rose

I meant to post this earlier, but on the eve of Valentine’s Day this is a perfect time for it to be shared.

We’ve seen LEGO roses before, heck, I’ve even built some but Barbara Werth’s rose is the first time I’ve seen minifig capes as petals.

It took me a moment to figure out how the center was made. See if you can figure it out.

I also really like the Toy Story Army Men bases as the leaves. That part isn’t used nearly enough, at least in my opinion. πŸ˜‰

Barbara certainly has a fun building style and its always great to find a fellow brick chick πŸ™‚

Fashion Valley LEGO Store Opening

October 14, 2011

The Fashion Valley LEGO Store Grand Opening is this weekend in San Diego. For all of you who are locals like me I’d encourage you to come on down and participate. For those of you who don’t live in the area, I’ll be covering both the Fashion Valley and Mission Viejo store openings after this weekend is over as they have the same building event — SpongeBob Squarepants.

Join in the weekend-long grand opening celebrations and LEGO Master Builder Event! Help a LEGO Master Builder construct an 8-foot tall LEGO model and get a free certificate of achievement for participating! Plus, when you make a qualifying purchase at the new LEGO Store, you could receive an exclusive LEGO minifigure set and a collectible, limited-edition LEGO t-shirt!

That’s right, not only am I going to this Grand Opening, I was at the one in Mission Viejo last weekend. Helping out at these events is fun, but can make you very tired! But its all in good fun and I love being a part of it. πŸ™‚

To give you an idea of scale, this is the little and big versions of Spongebob’s foot

I built both feet in about a day.

If you want to see pictures of the Mission Viejo opening before I talk about it here, you can see them on my Flickr set.

Ancient Lady’s Museum

July 20, 2010

Marcos Bessa has created a truly remarkable model. There is so much detail that it can’t even really be appreciated unless you look at the hi-res images.

Even a simple bench is cleverly constructed.

You really must take time to look at all the exhibits. The busts on the second floor really caught my eye and the staircase is a true masterpiece. πŸ™‚

Jaws 3d Movie Poster

December 25, 2009

I can just hear the terrifying two note melody as I see this. Alex Schranz made this impressive model based off of McFarlane Toys’ version.

It took me a moment to figure out what the large white teeth were at first, but then I realized it was multiples of Patrick’s head. Apparently the shark had a light snack of starfish before going after the main course. πŸ˜‰

Spongebob’s Take on Christmas

November 13, 2009

I know its still a little early to think about Christmas, but I just had to share this video I found on Eurobricks

This is the 2008 Grand Prize winner of the Built By Me Movie contest in partnership with LEGO. Using only LEGO bricks, Garret Barati animated the original Nickelodeon song, Dont Be a Jerk Its Christmas.

The stop motion animation is flawless and the message is fun and timely. Enjoy! πŸ˜€
