LEGO Batman Movie Review at WonderCon

April 3, 2013

The LEGO Batman Movie may not be out on DVD till May 21st, but I got to see the West Coast preview at WonderCon! Not only did they show the movie, but there was a Q&A afterward with the director Jon Burton of TT Games and several of the voice actors.

If you haven’t seen the trailer, here it is:

I’ll get back to the Q&A part in a minute. Now for the review — if you haven’t played LEGO Batman 2 yet, or don’t want to know what happens, you might not want to read this review. Spoilers ahead —

If you have played LEGO Batman 2 like I have, read my review of the game here, and read the description of the movie you would think what I thought — that the LEGO Batman Movie is basically the cut scenes from the game.

That is both true and not true. The story line is the same, but an interesting fact that I discovered from the Q&A is that the game is based off the movie!

According to Jon Burton, the director, they were working on the movie and then realized it would be a great game. But the game took less time to make than the movie and that’s why it came out first.

So in watching the movie, the plot is not really a surprise for those of us that played the game. Even so, this is worth watching. I have to admit I enjoyed it a lot more than any of the latest LEGO Star Wars mini movies. It was cute, fun and funny.

And watching a Gotham that’s built of LEGO is just plain cool. One of the coolest scenes is something that isn’t in the game — Lex’s airship. Its massive, shiny and “built” of over 20,000 parts. Like Jon Burton said, all the models in the games and the movie can be built in real life. TT Games actually has LEGO Master Model Builders on staff to ensure this.

What I like about the movie is that you can just watch it, you don’t have to do anything like in the game, and when you get the DVD you can pause it to look at the models more closely.

If you want to watch the Q&A here it is: (more spoilers)

After the panel I was able to meet both Jon Burton and Christopher Smith (the voice of the Joker)

It was awesome seeing it on the big screen and meeting some of the talent behind it. I highly recommend it!

And don’t forget that you get this awesome minifigure with the movie πŸ˜‰

Overall 5 out of 5 stars! Fun movie, and I’ll be wanting to watch this one more than once.

LEGO Batman 2 is almost here!

June 8, 2012

In just a little over a week LEGO Batman 2 the Video Game will be out for all platforms — June 19th the be precise (at least here in the States). I loved the original game and with the addition of the Justice League characters, I can only see the new game as an improvement on a winning formula.

And if you pre-order the game as I just did today, you get an exclusive Lex Luthor fig!

I plan on doing a full in depth review of the game as soon as I get my hands on a copy and have time to play it. I still haven’t finished LEGO Harry Potter 2 or LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean, but we won’t mention that. πŸ˜‰

Of course that is the kicker isn’t it — time. As you’ve probably noticed I’ve been so busy doing fun and interesting projects and trips that I’ve had no time to properly blog any of it! Its really and truly as frustrating to me to not blog as it is for you to only see the same posts for days on end.

After next week’s trip to BrickWorld Chicago I don’t have any other trips planned until BrickFair in August. So maybe I’ll have a little breathing room. There is the San Diego Comic Con in next month too, but at least I don’t have to fly anywhere.

Three conventions — Phoenix Comicon, BricksCascade, and BrickWorld — in 4 weeks has been a little much for me, especially as I’m still not recovered from my Florida trip and the project that came right after that one. And of course, as it is Wedding season, my Wedding Cake Toppers are selling like hot cakes and I’m trying to fulfill orders between trips.

I’m busier than ever and my blog is sadly the thing that suffers the most from it. But I can’t complain. A business is supposed to grow and evolve, I just need to learn to grow and evolve a little more. πŸ˜‰

Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes – Announcement Trailer

March 25, 2012

I do apologize for the lack of posts lately. I planned on posting while at Bricks by the Bay, but that obviously didn’t happen. I will be writing about the convention in my next post, but for now, check this out —

Oh, I am excited about this one!!! I’ve been a huge fan of the TT LEGO games ever since the first Star Wars game and even though they are basically very similar, that doesn’t stop me from getting each and every one of them. πŸ˜€

A very noticeable difference this time is that the Minifigs are talking instead of mumbled undecipherable sounds. The mumbling is certainly cheaper for an international game, but after several mini movies, DVD movies and now Ninja-go as a TV series it makes a lot more sense for them to talk.

And although I do like Batman, I also like Superman and Wonder Woman. πŸ™‚ Of course there are all the cool bad guys to play too. πŸ˜‰

This will be available on June 1st and you can preorder it on Amazon.

I’ll just share the pictures with you for now, its too late to do a proper post but hey, in this case, pictures are really all you need. πŸ˜‰

I do have more pictures and I’ll be adding them as I go along all weekend on my 2011 Comic Con Flickr set.

I have much more to post about such as the Green Lantern exclusive fig and the Warner Brother’s Swag Bag, but I’ll post the details later as it is really late and I need to get up pretty early for the official Day 1 of Comic Con 2011.
