2500 Likes on Facebook, 1500 Followers on Twitter and a Giveaway!

June 11, 2015

Wow, in just 4 months we’ve added 500 likes on the Model Building Secrets Facebook Page! to reach 2500 likes. That’s pretty cool!!! πŸ˜€

And as promised, a giveaway!

2015-06-11 14.31.38

There’s a fun couple sets — a microfighter X-wing, a fun creator set, a rare BR LEGO Minifig (not available in the US), a Brick-A-Laide promo brick (only available at the show in Australia) and the smallest but rarest thing in this giveaway is 4 2×2 new, never been used round chrome bricks that are over a decade old!

I figured since 2500 is kind of like a 25th anniversary I’d giveaway something shiny πŸ˜‰

Bunny and Babies LEGO Set 41087

May 28, 2015

Okay, so I know I haven’t posted for a couple of months, traveling to Australia, Baltimore and Utah in the span of those same couple months, along with building 3 big commissions has taken up most of my time lately, so this blog languishes in inactivity. I do post regularly on my Facebook Page and on My Twitter feed, so follow both of those if you want more recent and up to date posts. I do plan on doing a proper post for my Australia trip, however since I am flying to Virginia tomorrow for Scouting for Bricks and then Nashville before I get a break for a couple weeks till BrickWorld Chicago, I still haven’t had time to process and go through all my pics yet.

So, in the interim I’m doing a quick fun set review.

It all started this morning when I looked on BrickSet and saw this set.

Just from the pictures I knew I had to get it.

20150528_160005

Do you see what I see? Did you read the title? Bunny and

    babies!!!!

At $4.99 USD, its a fairly reasonably priced set. LEGO Friends replaced their pet polybags with these new mini set boxes, which I’m totally fine with. The other two in this series set are a baby horse an a puppy, but I passed on both of those in preference of this set for one very good reason — bunny babies!!!

To get a better idea of size, here’s the three sizes of bunny and as you can see the baby bunny is minifig scale.

The set itself is okay, a decent parts pack.
20150528_160607

But of course when I saw the babies I didn’t want just two, I wanted a whole herd of bunnies! So I had to buy all the sets on the shelf πŸ˜€

Much better πŸ˜‰

Set overall — 5 stars!! The baby bunnies are beyond awesome!
Pros — Baby bunnies!!!!!!!
Cons — Not enough baby bunnies πŸ˜€

I really hope they make these in other colors.

Its my Birthday, so I’m doing a Giveaway!

April 24, 2014

Hi all, I know I’ve been missing in action for the past many, many days. But I’ve been quite busy working on a model for Carbine Studios and NCSoft — that will be covered in a separate post πŸ˜‰ — so now that I’ve finally got a little bit of a breather, I can finally post again. Yay!!! πŸ˜€

And today is a special day for me — It’s my Birthday!!!!!!

But I love sharing the birthday goodness so I’m doing a giveaway.

Benny!

January 23, 2014

The LEGO Movie Benny

So Chris Miller, one of the two directors of The LEGO Movie, tweeted this picture of what Benny, the Classic Space Guy will look like in sets.

Now if your of my generation, you’ve got a few of these guys. They were known for their space logos rubbing off and for the chin strap braking. Which is exactly why Benny was made the way he was.

Of course his chin strap is thicker than the original ones and the “rubbed” off torso is printed that way. πŸ™‚

Benny will be available in two awesome sets coming out later this year

Metal Beard’s Sea Cow
The LEGO Movie 70810

And Benny’s Spaceship, Spaceship, Spaceship!
The LEGO Movie Benny's Spaceship 2

These sets aren’t on the cheap side, but they are both stunning and two of the best sets from this theme.

Even if you were not interested in the LEGO Movie (and who isn’t?) if you like Pirates or Classic Space then these two sets have something for you. πŸ˜‰

Make sure to brush your teeth

January 15, 2014

I know, I know. I’ve been MIA (missing in action) here on my blog for a while. If you’ve been following my Facebook Page or my Twitter feed then you know I’ve been working on a large model. It has a head, torso, arms and legs — but that’s all I will say till after I’m finished, which should be soon. So until I’m done, enjoy this cool model. πŸ˜‰

You know, for teeth!

Carl Merriam has done it again with this over sized tooth brush. I love how he gets all the details of the bristles and rubber that makes up the head.

It makes me think of the giant tooth brush that I designed at LEGOLAND, sadly I don’t have any pictures. 😦

It was for the Splash Battle Ride in the Pirates area of the park. If you’ve been to the park I’m sure you’ve seen the giant shark on the ride. Well one of the models that didn’t make it, but was designed, was supposed to go on the shark. The initial concept was of someone holding the mouth open, but I thought that joke had been done too many times so my idea was to have a cabin boy straddling a tooth in the mouth of the shark with a very nervous expression on his face and a giant tooth brush in his hand.

We got as far as designing most of the model, and I made both a two foot prototype and a four foot long toothbrush model with a big dollop of toothpaste, but for some reason the final version of the cabin boy was never finished and I have no idea what happened to the model. It still might be somewhere in model storage or it might have been recycled (yes that does happen), either way, I wish I had the pictures now.

My toothbrush was in no way as detailed as Carl’s, but it was still a fun project.

BrickCon Giveaway

October 5, 2013

Hi all! I’m having tons of fun a BrickCon. So much so that I haven’t had time to post anything. I haven’t even uploaded any pics yet except one rather fuzzy one on Facebook. I will be writing a post, all about my BrickCon experience later, but in the mean time, since I know how much everyone likes to get free stuff, I’m doing giveaway in honor of BrickCon. πŸ™‚

I’m giving away one of my custom models. This is a glued model, but his arms and legs can bend and his head isn’t glued on so that you position it whichever way you like πŸ˜‰

Comic Con Swag Giveaway #2

August 24, 2013

Considering my previous post, this one is a little ironic. But I had already planned to do this before I played the game, especially because Prima Games was awesome enough to send me a copy of the strategy guide so that I could give it away here. And I’m sure some of you will want to play this game so here’s your chance.

Chima DS Giveaway

As promised, here’s my second Comic Con Swag Giveaway. I didn’t get the guide at the Con, but I did make the contact there, so that counts right? πŸ˜€

Comic Con Swag Giveaway #1

July 22, 2013

Okay, I’m still barely conscious. Too little sleep, and too much San Diego Comic Con. I will be doing a full recap as soon as I’ve gotten more than a few hours of sleep. πŸ˜‰

You can read pretty good recaps on FBTB, but I have my own take on the Con and I’ll be tackling that soon.

If you’ve been following my Model Building Secrets Facebook page or my Twitter feed you’ve seen that I managed to get a nice bit of LEGO and building toy swag — enough swag that I’m willing to share πŸ˜€

So here’s the first batch —
2013 Comic Con Swag 1

Yes its mainly MEGA BLOKS figs (and no, I don’t know which ones), but there’s a LEGO Star Wars Yoda Chronicles Comic and I’ll throw in a couple of my Folded Fancy keychains as well as a surprise or two.

Just like the last give away there will be three ways to enter:
1)Comment on this post
2)Like my page and then Like, Share, and Comment on my link about this post on my Model Building Secrets Facebook page
3)Follow me on Twitter @MariannAsanuma and reply to my tweet about this post with the #giveaway

Yes, you can enter once all three ways. I will leave the giveaway open till midnight of July 29th (pacific standard time). This will be international, so as long as I can mail this to you, I will. πŸ˜‰

This isn’t the only swag I got, so I’ll be doling the rest of it out in the next few months. So if you don’t win this time, don’t worry.

Have fun and good luck!

Happy 1,001 Posts!

May 30, 2013

Wow, so its taken me 5 years, but I’ve finally reached 1001 posts! This would have been my 1000th post, but then Tim had to make that awesome orchid, so it pushed this back a day.

My blog has had its ups and downs and I wanted to thank everyone that has been following me. So, I’m doing my first — but definitely not the only — giveaway.

Blog Giveaway

The lucky winner will get all that you see pictured, and I’ll probably throw in a couple of my Folded Fancy keychains as well.

So let’s start this, and good luck! πŸ™‚
